Living with Crohn's

Coping

If you are diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, at first, it can be a pretty scary experience.  You may have a lot of questions:  Why is this happening to me?  Did I do something to cause my Crohn's Disease?  Am I going to be able to have a normal life?

One thing that you must know is that you did nothing to cause your Crohn's.  The reason you have Crohn's is a combination of your genetic make-up and other environmental factors, such as, where you live or sensitivity to certain foods.  Mortality rates due to Crohn's are relatively low, and many Crohn's sufferers are able to enjoy a very full life.

Dealing with the diagnosis initially may be stressful.  Please note that stress and anxiety may make Crohn's symptoms worse so to borrow a phrase from the Spanish language, tranquilo, or "take it easy".  The things that Crohn's sufferers should be most concerned with are staying upbeat and having a positive outlook on life, even the times when you are tired or in pain.  The effects of positive thinking have been shown scientifically to improve overall well-being.

For those who are spiritual, practicing your faith can improve your overall health.  For both those who are and who are not spiritual, simple meditation and visualization techniques may help relieve symptoms and improve your health.
